Quintana Roo is also a haven for foodies, especially those on the hunt for vibrant and delicious smoothie bowls. Matcha Mama (Tulum)
Matcha Mama in Tulum is known for their fun, vibrant, bohemian vibes with swings and “I love Tulum so Matcha” signs. It’s a hotspot for health foodies and some of their products is matcha tea (obviously), coffee, juices and smoothie bowls. Matcha Mama has several locations in Tulum, both in the city and at the beach. Products are plant based and gluten free.
I first visited the place in March 2020, when the world went into covid lockdown, and I almost got stuck in Mexico due to cancelled flights. Matcha Mama became my oasis and happy place amid the chaos of the world. The friendly staff greeted me warm smiles that could brighten even the gloomiest day. Each bowl was a work of art, topped with fresh fruits, crunchy granola, nut butter and drizzles of coconut magic. It wasn’t just food; it was therapy in a coconut shell.
Matcha Mama wasn’t just a place to grab a smoothie bowl; it was a reminder to breathe, savor the moment, and find joy even when life got messy. I keep coming back to this place every time I´m in Tulum.
Peace and Bowl (Playa Del Carmen)
Peace and Bowl is a vegan and healthy gem tucked away from the typical tourist streets in Playa Del Carmen. This is an ultimate destination for bowl lovers. From smoothie and açaí bowls bursting with tropical flavors to savory hummus and salad bowls packed with nourishing ingredients, there’s something here to satisfy every craving. And if you’re thirsty, their organic juices and smoothies are the perfect pick-me-up.

Painapol (Holbox)
Holbox is a small, idyllic paradise where the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean meet. This car-free island is a small, laid back paradise with turquoise water and endless stretches of white powdery beaches. Located in the main sandy streets of the town you find Painapol, which offers a tropical haven for brunch lovers. This charming eatery boasts a lovely outdoor setting, perfect for soaking up the island’s laid-back vibe.
Painapol has a wholesome menu, including vegan and vegetarian options, but it’s the smoothie bowls that steal the spotlight. The smoothie bowls are edible works of art that are as visually stunning as they are delicious. Raw Love (Tulum)
Nestled between the lush jungle and the sandy shores of Tulum, Raw Love Cafe is a haven for health-conscious foodies. If raw vegan cuisine is your thing, this is the place to indulge! Located in a shaded palm garden this is the perfect spot to pause your beach cruiser and recharge.
The entirely gluten-free and plant-based menu offers endless options to customize your smoothie with superfoods, revitalize with healing shots, savor a creamy coconut latte, or treat yourself to their stunning smoothie bowls, especially when loaded with nut butter—my favorite indulgence. With its boho charm, hammock lounging, and a menu filled with raw chocolate and veggie delights, Raw Love Cafe is the ultimate spot to refuel your body and spirit.
Fresco Hábito (Playa Del Carmen)
In a quiet street, slightly tucked away from the busy Quinta Avenida in Playa Del Carmen you’ll find Fresco Hábito. This cozy café is the perfect spot for breakfast or lunch, offering a menu filled with nutritious options and vibrant plant-based dishes. From hearty bowls to refreshing juices, every item is thoughtfully crafted to satisfy both your taste buds and your wellness goals. Fresco Hábito offers an impressive range of smoothie bowls. Each bowl is bursting with vibrant colors and loaded with healthy ingredients. Of course, I can’t resist adding a generous dollop of peanut butter to mine—it’s the perfect finishing touch to an already delicious treat.
While the café’s popularity often makes snagging a table during the late morning a challenge, it’s well worth the wait. My favorite spot is a table facing the street, the ideal perch for enjoying your meal while soaking in the vibrant energy of the surroundings. From the delicious bowls to the perfect people-watching opportunities, Fresco Hábito is a must-visit destination for a healthy and flavorful experience in Playa Del Carmen.
